As you will be aware, energy bills are one of most household’s biggest expenses so I hope that you’ll join us to help promote a local initiative which has been set up to help make energy more affordable for people in Cornwall.
Cornish householders spend an estimated £41 million more on their energy bills than they need to each year because two thirds of households are on more expensive standard variable tariffs. Community Energy Switch was set up 18 months ago by Community Energy Plus to help fight fuel poverty by making energy more affordable and is being endorsed and promoted by Cornwall Council, NHS Kernow, Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust and the Winter Wellbeing Programme for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
So far the initiative has helped over 1,900 people to switch tariffs, saving an average of £234 which has kept close to half a million pounds in the pockets of Cornish householders.
Registration for Community Energy Switch’s autumn collective switch is now open and householders have until 31st October to register their interest, with no obligation to switch, at www.communityenergyswitch.org.uk or call Freephone 0800 954 1956.
How you can get involved
Cornwall’s collective energy switch links into the group buying power of other collectives taking place across the country at the same time but needs as many people as possible to register for our autumn collective.
Please help us to spread the word about Community Energy Switch through the following channels:
– Like us on Facebook (www.facebook.com/CommunityEnergyClub) and share our updates
– Follow and retweet us on Twitter (www.twitter.com/CEPEnergyClub)
– Forward this email to colleagues, friends and family
– Include some information about this initiative on your website
How Community Energy Switch works
Community Energy Switch is open to everyone – whether they live in or outside Cornwall. This includes people who own their own homes, rent from a private landlord or social housing provider, as well as if they pay their energy bills by direct debit, cheque, cash or pre-payment meter.
In order to access the winning tariffs, households need to register before midnight on 31st October, after which UK energy suppliers will compete to offer the cheapest exclusive tariffs.
Householders who register their details will be contacted with details of the winning energy deal on 1st November. They will be able to compare the exclusive winning tariffs against all other tariffs on the market, alongside the supplier’s customer service ratings. If another tariff suits their energy needs more, they can sign up for that instead. There will also be tariffs from smaller energy suppliers on offer, along with green tariffs.
Once someone has agreed to switch, the necessary arrangements will be made on their behalf with their old and new suppliers.
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide to help us spread the word about our autumn collective energy switch.
